“When everywhere is crowded, who is expected to make themselves smaller? In this personal yet timely solo work, Cole uses her experience as a queer woman to physically investigate the space as a means to highlight the universal human desire to occupy equal space, and therefore equal value in the world. This work seeks to highlight the ways in which we knowingly or unknowingly participate in our own subjugation and begs the question: How do we overcome the situation?”
everything isn’t going to be okay (and that’s okay)
A film by Jodie Jernigan

Filmed by Jacie Jernigan
Featuring Jodie Jernigan
Music by Ptar Flamming
Spoken word by Jamie Jernigan
“This film explores the pursuit of inner peace despite tumultuous circumstances and existential crises in the face of impending doom. Inspired by collective trauma and its effects both individually and as an assemblage, the film works to deconstruct the common and questionably comforting phrase, “everything is going to be okay” in favor of a more realistic
and attainable comfort that embraces the innate imperfection and seemingly constant seismic shifts life throws our way. This process is one rooted in realist thought patterns, walking along a strange dichotomy between hopeful and pessimistic narratives.”
Drowning Breath

“Water, the essence of life; the constraint of drowning and the experience of calm live within the element. In, “Drowning Breath,” we explore the experience of water through a dual lens, constraint and calm. “ma is an emptiness full of possibilities. In this exploration, space is not considered an absence that separates, but rather a resource for relationships. Over the last six months we have been put to the task of creating space between humans, whether it’s the 6 feet of social distance, or the vast distances between friends and family that we would have normally travelled between. We want to explore ways through movement to show how the emptiness between us, while physically separating the movers, provides the opportunity for creation and beauty.”
