Kristi Cole & Guests
Kristi Cole (she/her) is a queer, New York based performer and choreographer with a
BA in Dance and Political Science from George Washington University. She founded
Kristi Cole & Guests in 2019 with the mission of bringing together artists to create
powerful and thought-provoking interdisciplinary work. Her solo, IN MY PLACE
premiered in September 2019 and was presented in New Jersey and other NYC venues.
To create an original dance film, To Claim & Reclaim, Kristi collaborated with
filmmaker, Shannon Finnell. The film premiered in NYC in 2019 and was presented
throughout 2020. In November 2019, Kristi began working on her first evening length
piece which was set to premiere in March 2020. For this production, Kristi received a
New Work Grant from the Queen's Council on the Arts. Due to COVID-19, Kristi
transitioned the event to a virtual platform, Value of Space: An Evening of Art &
Performance, which premiered in December 2020.
As a choreographer and performance artist, Kristi believes that art is a social platform
to examine the world. By posing critical questions to the obstacles we face as a society,
her work seeks to resonate with audiences and spark meaningful conversations
surrounding complicated issues. Captivating, moving and powerful, Cole's work
demands the attention of the audience, sucking them into her world and spitting them
out into their own. Experimentation fosters artistic research and facilitates the creation
of an abstract world for the work to exist within. Viewers are given the opportunity to
attach their own experiences to the ones embodied before them, further highlighting
our common connection through our shared experience of being human.
